atelier let’s transforms disused urban area into basketball courts in taiwan
taiwanese practice, atelier let?s, designs a basketball court pavilion in the hamasen area of kaohsiung city in taiwan. the aim of the project is to provide a ?living room? for the community in an area that was previously an abandoned railway. the site, which sits adjacent to a port and was once used for storing cargo, has been revitalized to create a small space for activities and relaxation.
a bird?s eye view of the project
with the touch of bamboo yang, a brilliant graffiti artist, the colors of the basketball courts are in perfect harmony with the atmosphere of the new space. thanks to the urban development bureau, this ?homelike? neighborhood is once again being introduced to the public by means of revitalization, opening up a small corner of the city to the local residents.
the soft color scheme not only makes the space more relaxing, it also prevents people from littering carelessly
the main structure is disassembled and reformed by two cargo boxes
the wavelike steel bars are also reinforcement components of the structure
