Steal This Look: A Portuguese Bedroom with Vintage Charm
Last month I spent a week in Portugal and stayed at Baixa House, a renovated Pombaline building pieced into different apartments. One of my favorite things about our room was the simple bedroom with just a few vintage touches. Owner and designer MarĂa Ulecia sourced one-of-a-kind pieces for each room: shepherd?s blankets from northern Portugal, metal lamps from the Feira de Ladra (flea market), mirrors from Belgium, and prints from eBay France. Here we’ve re-created the look of the bedrooms with online alternatives and a few resources from Ulecia.
Above: The pink blanket is an old textile found at the Fabrica Alentejana de Lanificios in Monsaraz, Portugal. The tiles are original to the 18th-century building.
Above L: A vintage wicker chair from Hanbel in Andoain, Spain. Above R: A vintage metal pendant light from La Cabina in Pamplona, Spain.
Above: The gray wooden mirror and zinc rosette came from Pomax, a shop out of Kontich, Belgium. The small oval bedside table is from antiques shop A Barbaca in Lisbon.
Above: Ulecia found the botanical charts at Tado, a shop in Madrid; they’re originally from a German primary school.
