Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel combines the best elements of winter to create a unique place for visitors and is located in Alta, Norway. Situated outside the city center, alongside the river Alta, the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel is the world’s northernmost ice hotel. The first Igloo Hotel was built in 2000.

The Igloo Hotek covers an area of 2,500 m2 and it takes 250 tons of ice and 7,000 m3 of snow to build it.

The hotel is constructed in a T-shape and it consists of 30 rooms, suits, a restaurant, an ice gallery, and an ice bar. All the elements of the hotel, including the bed frames and glasses, are made from ice. The ice statues, made by the local workers and artists, adorn every corner of the hotel. There is even an ice chapel inside the hotel.

The hotel is designed and built each year with a mixture of igloo rooms and designed themed suites. Before the ice season starts, the hotel picks a theme and crafts statues, furniture, and reliefs accordingly. It uses traditional modes of warmth against the cold. There are reindeer hides covering the mattresses laid over the frozen furniture and sleeping bags in the rooms. The visitors are advised to wear wool underwear as well. There is also a sauna inside the hotel.
