Location: Dalston, Hackney, North East London, England, UK
Transit Studio recently completed Sapling, a wine focused restaurant and larder in Dalston, London. The architects worked with the client to create an evocative concept about wine, exploring what a Dalston Terroir could be. Within the small shop unit the idea was to create an informal communal space with a range of seating types that celebrate the act of commensality. The central table defines the space, as a high table and communal bar, with slim banquettes that wrap around the perimeter. The idea was to intertwine the seating and service within the space, with the kitchen visible through a framed window to the rear.
?Within such a small site we wanted to create as many possible experiences of the space and the atmosphere – An intimate and cosy booth, alongside a large flexible communal table in the centre. The palette is calm, tactile and light with timber terrazzo surfaces that bring the restaurant to life.?
