This Houston home reimagines midcentury style for the 21st century Lovers of midcentury modern style know that it?s rare to find a time capsule home packed with original features. More often than not, renovations over the decades impart a bit of ?70s flair or early 2010s farmhouse into the mix, for better or for worse.

That?s what happened with this four-bedroom, three-bath home in Houston, Texas. Originally designed and constructed in 1958 by W.L. Killgore, Jr., the home was lauded in 1960 magazines and featured in the Parade of Homes for its indoor-outdoor fish pool, cathedral-like ceilings, and expansive windows.
Renovations weren?t kind to the original design, and according to listing agent Rob Griffith the kitchen and baths suffered from redos that overloaded on 1990?s Mediterranean schtick. In an effort to bring the home back to its roots, a recent remodel held true to the 1950s, although Griffith emphasizes that the project wasn?t so much a restoration as it was a reimagining of midcentury style for the 21st century. Today, the 3,502-square-foot house features an open floor plan with a giant living room area that boasts vaulted ceilings and exposed beams. Brick accents blend with refreshed wood paneling and a giant stone fireplace, while in the kitchen you will find terrazzo floors and custom black walnut cabinets.
