Neutral decor ideas to steal from a plant-filled Brooklyn home
Outfit your apartment with soft hues and relaxed pieces This week?s edition of House Calls takes us to the Brooklyn, New York, home of AJ Pires and Rachel Johnston, who traded in their classic brownstone for a waterfront apartment in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
The couple?s collection of 200-plus plants?inherited from Johnston?s late father?thrive in the unit?s floor-to-ceiling windows, which provide a cinematic view of the East River. The plants, in fact, helped shape the interior palette. ?We wanted to keep the palette more neutral so the plants could provide the color,? Johnston says.

Dining room
The dining room is home to a walnut Montis Doble Table and walnut Ch36 Wegner dining chairs; Tom Dixon light fixtures hang overhead. Each kitchen in all of the units in the building are by Italian brand RiFra. The kitchen?s backsplash is made from tiles by the couple?s friend, Forrest Lesch-Middelton, and the shelf holding dry goods is by Mark Jupiter.
