Another incredible Frank Lloyd Wright home is on the market in Minneapolis, where you might recall the rare Paul Olfelt house that went up for sale a couple of years ago for the first time ever. The residence in question today is known as the Frieda and Henry J. Neils House, and it was designed in 1949 for a stone and architectural materials distributor and his wife.
The home is unique in several ways, beginning with the fact that Wright and Henry Neils collaborated quite closely on its construction. Different materials were used than are typical for a Wright-designed house (because of Neils?s professional background), and this one, which was completed in 1951, features aluminum window framing instead of wood. The house also uses marble walls, the first Wright project to do so.
The overall design, however, is peak Usonian and boasts an L-shaped floorplan with large window expanses, angled corners and asymmetrical layouts, wood paneling, Wright?s trademark ?Cherokee Red? flooring, built-in furniture and storage, and, of course, the balance of natural materials like wood, stone, and glass.
