161-square-foot micro apartment accommodates everything you need
The ?shoe box? studio is located on a Beirut rooftop Downsizing continues to capture the imaginations of folks the world over, whether for necessity?s sake or a desire to declutter and live minimally. This micro apartment in Beirut was borne out of both things?a lack of affordable accommodations as well as an interest in efficiency.
Designed by local architect and designer Elie Metni and his team, the aptly named Shoe Box apartment measures just 15 square meters?that?s approximately 161 square feet?but still manages to pack in all the essentials, plus a few extras, by way of custom furniture and storage solutions.
The narrow studio space has been painted white (including the floors and laminate plywood built-ins) to better reflect the natural light pouring in through the windows and create the illusion of openness. Indeed, the apartment accommodates a queen bed on a storage platform on one end, and a small kitchen and bathroom on the other. A desk, seating area, fold-out dining table, and kitchen counter line the perimeter of one side of the room, while a TV and console are found on the opposite wall. A simple bathroom whose white square tiling continues from the kitchen is found behind a glass door. What?s more, the rooftop studio can enjoy a bit of breathing room courtesy of terrace. For those interested, Shoe Box is available to rent through Airbnb.
