A tiny picturesque town in the Swiss Alps may soon be accepting applications for prospective residents, who, upon being chosen, would be paid 25,000 Swiss francs per adult and 10,000 per child (that?s about $25,400 and $10,170, respectively) to live there for at least a decade.
Albinen, located in the canton of Valais in southwestern Switzerland ?on the sunny sides of the Rhone valley,? counts just 240 residents, with many of them having moved away in recent years?which is why the government will be voting on an initiative to recruit new residents. Applicants must be under the age of 45, be willing to stay there full time (i.e., not on holiday) for 10 years, and live in a home that is worth at least 200,000 Swiss francs, or about $203,400. Although Albinen may not be bustling with available jobs, many can be found in larger neighboring villages.
