Winnebago debuts new wheelchair-friendly RV collectionÂ
The campers boast wheelchair lifts, roll-in showers, and wider hallways With a goal of bringing greater comfort to people traveling in wheelchairs, Winnebago just announced that they are launching three new accessibility-enhanced motorhomes. The new wheelchair-friendly models will be available in three standardized floorplans and will debut this weekend at the Florida RV Supershow.
According to the the U.S. Census Bureau 2012 report, there are about 3.6 million people over the age of 15 who use a wheelchair, and about 11.6 million people using a cane, crutches or walker to get around. Travel can often be difficult thanks to cramped RVs, the lack of wheelchair lifts, and beds that don?t allow for easy access.
To combat these problems, Winnebago is offering a slew of wheelchair customization options, including a platform wheelchair lift with an 800-pound lifting capacity, and a powered roll-up lift door for wheelchair entry and exit. Other features include expanded hallways, a roll-in shower with an assist bar and folding bench seat, a raised toilet with assist bars, and a roll under sink. Sleep will be easier thanks to an electric adjustable queen bed, while wall-mounted lights and an optional lower microwave make day-to-day activities more manageable. All of the options will be available in three different Winnebago models, including the Intent 30R AE, Adventurer 30T AE, and Forza 34T AE.
