It?s France?s first WeWork outpost WeWork, the New York-based coworking company, has an incredible real estate footprint in the U.S.?and an ever-expanding one around the world. The company?s presence has, for better or worse, changed much of how we think about what a workspace can and should be. In fact, WeWork?s influence was recently affirmed by a $4.4 billion investment from Japan?s SoftBank, ahead of a planned expansion in Asia.
While we wait for WeWork Tokyo to open its doors (whenever the time comes), we?ll be ogling WeWork La Fayette, the company?s outpost in Paris?s ninth arrondissement. The first in France, the 130,000-square-foot WeWork La Fayette takes up residence in a 1920s Art Deco building with gorgeous period details, like an original glass-ceiling over the atrium, preserved by Paris design office Axel Schoenert Architectes. WeWork La Fayette recently hosted an exhibition by designer Sam Baron (of Italian studio Fabrica), who used the space as a backdrop for a meditation on the analog objects?from bookcases to calendars to paper clips?that make office work possible, even in our digital age.
WeWork has been busy lately: Beyond the expansion plans tied to the landmark $4.4 billion the company recently received, and its growth into the co-living sector, the company also announced that it will open luxe gyms in its locations across New York City.
