Wells Coates The Penthouse Isokon Building
Designed by Wells Coates for Jack and Molly Pritchard, the Isokon Building (or Lawn Road Flats) opened in 1934 as a progressive experiment in new ways of urban living. When I first saw the structure I instantly thought Le Corbusier, so it was nice to read that Coates was inspired by Le Corbusier.
The penthouse in this building is or was for sale and that is what is featured here. I was instantly struck by all of the molded plywood going on which typically I am not drawn to but its all working nicely here. I love that you can feel the age and importance of the building through the patina found on the wood walls. The owner that lives here did a beautiful job at curating these spaces.
