Vallès Oriental Residence by YLAB Arquitectos Barcelona
A Scandinavian family looking for a holiday home that would accommodate their children and guests hired YLAB Arquitectos Barcelona to design a unique, modern space that was comfortable and welcoming. The Vallès Oriental Residence is situated just south of the Maresme Mountains in a valley with views of the coastal mountain range, which is home to pine and holm oat forests.
The design splits the house into two volumes, which are connected by a large outdoor space that houses a swimming pool. The main volume is spread over two floors and faces the oversized terrace and views. A corridor runs the length of the house on both floors connecting the spaces and giving sight lines through the entire house.
The street level contains the living room with a dining area and kitchen that are separated by an entrance hall with the staircase. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms for children, a playroom, and a master bedroom.
The interior features taupe colored concrete floors, rich wood paneling and cabinets, sandy colored walls, and contemporary furnishings resulting in a modern and sophisticated space.
The bright living room has a custom wooden wall unit with a black steel fireplace, TV, and sound system. The tobacco-colored wood is paired with light sofas, a beige rug, and black coffee tables.
In the master bedroom on the wall opposite the bed, there’s a grey sandstone paneled wall unit with a cut-out clad in brass.
