This sprawling midcentury modern home in Houston, Texas, was designed by local architects Lucian T. Hood and Phillip G. Willard, who built a number of homes in the masonry style in the late ?40s and early ?50s. Completed in 1952, the 2,908-square-foot residence was restored as well as sensitively expanded by Los Angeles-based AREA Architecture in 1999.
The result is an impressive house characterized by broad horizontal lines, a flowing floorplan, and natural materials like redwood, fir, flagstone, brick, and more. The updates also complement the space, incorporating many design elements of the period.
