Travels with Larry: Raleigh, North Carolina
Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral
By Larry Peters, Copper Development Association Project Manager & Architectural Applications Specialist
I recently had the honor of visiting with Frank Baker of Baker Roofing, one of the largest roofing companies in the U.S. Some of his crews are very busy installing copper roofing on an extremely impressive new building, the Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral. Construction is ongoing, but the massive copper-clad dome is now in place.
The dome was fabricated and the copper was installed at ground level, and then it was carefully lifted into place. Pretty impressive hoisting a 160+ ton dome! The general contractor, Clancy Theys, is posting great videos and images, all accessible from this link: http://www.clancytheys.com/category/holynameofjesuscatholiccathedral/
I look forward to returning one day and seeing the building with copper roofing completely installed.
It?s great to see some building owners care about long-term performance and associate with the skilled professionals who can provide the performance they need.
