This Scandinavia-inspired lake home is a sweet modern retreat
Serene and clutter free in Minnesota For the young owners of this Minnesota lake house, the minimalism, functionality, and material simplicity of Scandinavian design live up to the hype. Inspired by the couple?s love of Nordic style, the architects at Strand Design created a custom 4,800-square-foot vacation home that has a northern flair.
The home?s layout comprises two main volumes connected by a large glass-walled dining room. The double-height living room and kitchen compose one wing, with three bedrooms, a media room, and exercise room across the second. The use of precast-cement tiles on both the interior and exterior helps to blur the home?s boundaries with the great outdoors?as do the massive windows in the shared spaces and fully operable glass doors separating the dining room from the porch.
The interior features floors of blonde wood and polished concrete, the effect of which is softened by the use of wood paneling for accent walls and several segments of ceiling.
