The latest mind-boggling rig to pop up in our feeds is currently under construction in Australia. Made by SLRV Expedition Vehicles, the go-anywhere vehicle is called the Commander 8x8. And while we?ve seen plenty of burly expedition campers, this custom build by SLRV is a two-story behemoth that can sleep ten.
The motorhome is based on the German-built, military-focused Man 8x8 truck chassis and uses a solid lift-up roof design to add a second story. According to the Australian site Caravan Camping Sales, SLRV is about half way finished through the six-month build out.
The clients are a family of eight who wanted to be able to travel for months at a time through remote regions of Australia. When the RV arrives at camp, a stairwell provides access to the upper level, which houses beds for six kids and a pop-up TV.
Downstairs, the plans include a master bedroom, bathroom, kitchen galley, and a dinette that can seat the whole family. A king bed will also drop down over the lounge to sleep two guests. In order to feed and ho...
