1. Orientation of the furnishings
One of the major aspects to consider in any Muslim home is the orientation of the furnishings. Even long-practicing Muslims sometimes do not know or end up confusing this point. The foot of the bed and the direction of the wash-commode must never face the direction of the Ka?ba.
The Ka?ba is considered Allah?s home on earth, and it?s extremely disrespectful to lie feet-first in its direction. The direction of the Ka?ba varies according to your geographical location and it?s called Qibla. For example, if you live in North America then your cardinal direction is East. If you live in Europe, then your cardinal direction towards Qibla is the South East. A Muslim house design must avoid facing the foot-board of the bed and WC front in direction of the Ka?ba.
2. Use of art
You can go for calligraphy, abstract artwork and even arabesques and geometry to spruce up your interior designs. Many Muslims like to hang verses from the Quran and even the several names of Allah done in beautiful calligraphy around their homes. It?s an important, if not the essential part of a Muslim home.
