The long-delayed Hamburg’s miracle

These days, the whole world is talking about the new spectacular philharmonic building in Hamburg. After ten year of construction and ten budget overruns. “Elbphilharmonie” is now considered as one of the most impressive modern building in Europe. ?Herzog & De Meuron? created this glass structure that cost 789 million euros.Behind the unique wavy façade lies a central concert hall with over 2000 places, built from 10.000 unique acoustic panels that cover the ceiling, the walls and the balustrades.
The largest of the three concert halls is built using parametric design ? process in which the designers use algorithms to create the shape of the building. In this case, each of the 10.000 gypsum panel is assigned to a unique shape thanks to the algorithms. ?Each panel has it?s own function? said Benjamin Koren, the founder of the ?One to one? who collaborated with the main architects to design and build the panels. In addition to the concerts hall, there is a hotel and exclusive residential complex. The most expensive apartment offers amazing visual experience ? view of Hamburg and the river.
Architects have designed a public square that extends over 4000 square meters and rises 37 meters above the river.
