The Gilded Age: Handmade Wallpaper from Custhom in London

We recently discovered Custhom, a London-based design studio specializing in handmade wallpaper. Designers Nathan Philpott and Jemma Ooi find inspiration in Otomi embroidery, Palladian window frames, and 1950s American abstract art in their FSC-certified paste-up or repositionable paper. Here is a selection of the studio’s most glamorous designs.
Above: The Offset Wallpaper in Fir Green + Gold is the design inspired by American abstract painting with offset curves and no definitive pattern; $312.16 for a 10-meter-wide (33-foot-wide) roll. It?s also available in Navy + Gold or bespoke color combinations.
Above: As a design studio, Custhom has worked with John Pawson, Somerset House, Liberty of London, and more, focusing on interiors and retail spaces. Here, the Igneous Wallpaper?hand-foiled metallic patterns inspired by igneous rock?is $240.62 per roll. In addition to graphite, it’s also available in granite, olivine, and navy.
Above: In the shape of a Palladian-style window frame, the Palladian Wallpaper in Gold has a single window on each drop of the wallpaper with individual sections measuring 3 meters (about 10 feet) high but can be ordered in custom heights; $409.70 per roll.
Above: The Palladian Wallpaper in Blue, a bright, royal blue against a pale gray background; $240.62 per roll.
Above: The distressed, hand-foiled Columbia Road Wallpaper in Matt Gold, is a non-repeating pattern; $455.23 per roll. It?s also available in pewter, gold, and copper....
