The redesigned site is set to open in 2023, just in time for the 2024 Olympics The engineer Gustav Eiffel designed the Eiffel Tower as the entrance to the 1889 World?s Fair. More than a century later, the iconic monument is getting a refresh in the form of a new park that will greet visitors when they arrive for the 2024 Olympics.
After an extensive competition, landscape architecture firm Gustafson Porter + Bowman won the opportunity to reshape the area surrounding the monument. Its design, ?OnE?, reimagines the site?s congested green space as an unified landscape that elegantly frames the tower and connects key landmarks in the area.

The architects explain that the goal was to create an accessible landscape that connects the swath of land through green routes and pedestrian paths. A stretch of manicured lawn runs the length of site and is flanked by classic and picturesque French gardens meant to evoke the refined gardens found across the city. These gardens and green spaces will be able to host performances and exhibitions, as well as encourage biodiversity.

The plan also calls for a green amphitheater at the Place du Trocadéro and an accessible green promenade at the Pont d?Iéna bridge.
The first phase of the ?40 million (about $44.7 million) project is expected to be done by 2023, with work continuing through 2030.
