The Earth table by Renzo Piano
?The Earth table? is not a table old as the world, but the wood used for its making is incredible 50.000 old. This rare kind of tree named Kaur is found only in some areas of New Zealand. The tree from which is made the table is found in North Island of New Zealand. It was buried in peat soil at the end of the last glacial period and thanks to the perfect chemical balance, the tree is perfectly preserved and is believed to have spent underground about 50.000 years.
The table is made from the Italian family firm Riva 1920?s .The firm is specialized in the production of designer furniture. This amazing work of art is designed by Renzo Piano and as materials are used resin, iron and wood. Here are a few words from the firm that created the fabulous furniture:
?We tried to create a stylized form of the Earth. The wooden parts of the table metaphorically represent the continents and parts of the resin ? the oceans. The structure of the tree and the transparent resin are able to create interesting synergies through the shadows and contrasts.?
