The 20 cities leading the way for electric vehicles
How cities in China, California, and elsewhere have become the capitals for EV adoption. The increasing adoption and sales of electric vehicles may be hard to catch, and not just because these cars, trucks, and buses run much quieter than their internal combustion counterparts.
According to a new report by the International Council on Clean Transportation, ?Electric vehicle capitals of the world: What markets are leading the transition to electric,? the rising number of EVs on the road, expected to hit 3 million total by the end of the year, are clustered in just a handful of cities. Their policies offer a roadmap to increasing EV adoption, and show how, when regulations and incentives align, it?s possible to make shifts in the wider transportation system. ?Many cities have a goal to decarbonize the transport sector,? says Nic Lutsey, lead author of the report. ?The more we look at their plans, they more we see them push electric vehicles as a central solution.?
