The project would help store wind-generated energy for breezeless days Vestas Wind Systems A/S, the Danish company behind the world?s most powerful offshore wind turbines is teaming up with big-battery companies, including Tesla, to figure out how to integrate power storage directly into wind turbine systems. Over the past several years, Tesla has amped up its battery storage game beyond home Powerwalls into larger grid-level systems. The collaboration between Tesla and Vestas is just one of about ten wind-farm battery projects that Vestas is currently experimenting on with a number of partners. Plans are in the works to expand the number of these projects around the globe. In April, Vestas formally announced its added focus on energy storage as a way to get a competitive edge over other turbine-makers. More and more countries are investing in offshore wind energy technology?including the U.S.?and integrated or even more efficient storage could help tip the scales in Vestas?s favor.
?Across a number of projects, Vestas is working with different energy storage technologies with specialized companies, including Tesla, to explore and test how wind turbines and energy storage can work together in sustainable energy solutions that can lower the cost of energy,?
