tadao ando has completed the design of ?152 elizabeth?, a luxury residential building located in new york?s nolita neighborhood. the project, which was fully unveiled in 2015, is the japanese architect?s first residential development in the city and contains a total of seven homes. conceived as ?sanctuary?, the development?s acoustically enhanced façade system has been designed to ensure that inhabitants have tranquil home environments despite the busy downtown location.

152 elizabeth is developed by sumaida + khurana in partnership with nahla capital, with the former also providing the backing for álvaro siza?s first project in new york. the development team were eager to work with ando and even traveled to his studio in osaka to spend time with the 1995 pritzker laureate. the building?s interiors have been designed by gabellini sheppard associates, the firm also serving as the project?s architect of record.
