Straw Marquetry by Arthur Seigneur

Straw Marquetry is not something I have seen much of or an art form I have given much thought to. What is it" “Straw marquetry is the art of forming a decorative pattern using coloured, flattened slithers of natural straw. The straw used in straw marquetry is Rye, cultivated and harvested old style. The stem is split and flattened into a ribbon. It is then inlaid edge to edge on paper or wood until the surface is covered. The process is entirely hand done and uses hand tools only.” Arthur really is a true artist, couldn’t imagine taking the time to produces such stunning pieces. The set of doors reminds of something you would see in Palm Springs. I could only imagine the time it took to create those op art cubes, stunning.
