A swanky addition to the city Over in Stockholm?s Brunkebergstorg Square, a 1970s-built Brutalist high-rise previously used as a bank headquarters has been revamped into a modern hotel, the originally intended purpose for the building. The At Six hotel, renovated by London firm Universal Design Studio comes off thoroughly Brutalist with its dark, monochrome interiors, but it?s all pulled together with a soft, hand-crafted touch?not to mention an impressive art collection.
The swanky space, which contains 10 floors of guest rooms, a restaurant, two bars, plus events and work space, also shows off an art collection that includes big names like Sol Le Witt, Jaume Plensa, Olafur Eliasson, and Tacita Dean. The rich Scandinavian design tradition is not lost on decor, which features specially commissioned pieces by local makers and designers. As Dezeen details, there?s custom lighting by Swedish studio Rubn in each guest room, as well as hand-blown vessels by Swedish glassmaker Carina Seth Anderson. And the leather wrap on the handrail in the lobby staircase was done by a local saddle maker. As far as early impressions go, so far so good.
