Stable and unstable are always so close categories. In many areas as well as the construction.  Stable truss is the one in which when loads are applied, truss maintains its position and configuration. But when the loads are removed it comes back to its original position.

Unlike that truss, the unstable truss members undergoes rigid body motion and when loads are removed they don’t come back to their original position. Further more there is missing a satisfying equilibrium position in each loading case. The video presentation will make it all a lot clearer.
