Soon you can buy a replica of Richard Neutra?s midcentury glass penthouse
Kettal partnered with Richard Neutra?s son to recreate the architect?s famed addition Owning a piece of architectural history just got a little bit easier. Outdoor furniture brand Kettal is building replicas of the glassy penthouse pavilion that topped Richard Neutra?s VDL Research House in Los Angeles.
Working with Neutra?s son, Dion, Kettal is creating two replicas of the space: a true-to-form building called the VDL Penthouse and another version with no glass called the VDL Pavilion.
Neutra added the penthouse in 1963 when he and Dion rebuilt the VDL House after a devastating fire. He designed it with the intention of creating a space for relaxation and connection to nature. The glassy doors of the penthouse slide open, effectively merging the interior with the outside world.

Kettal?s replica is designed to align with Neutra?s charming midcentury vision but updated for modern times. The 39 by 12 foot structure will be equipped with smart home functions that automatically control features like lighting and air conditioning.
Kettal says the replicas will be available in 2020 for an undisclosed amount, which means that soon, you, too, can have a piece of design history in your backyard, garden, or on your roof.
