Startup Village was designed by Julius Taminiau Shipping containers have an array of uses, and the latest example of their versatility is this cluster of them that collectively creates Startup Village, a new coworking space in Amsterdam Science Park in the Netherlands.
Designed by Dutch architect Julius Taminiau (who also designed this sleek houseboat), Startup Village was inspired by Pop Brixton and the Container House Project, a similar project in Brixton, London, conceived by Carl Turner Architects.
At Startup Village, several converted shipping containers are arranged and stacked around a courtyard, forming two levels comprising 150 individual work spaces and community and event facilities aimed at those interested in entrepreneurship. A network of wooden walkways, staircases, and decks connects each container, with a covered event space on one end. Meeting rooms, office space for startups, workshop areas, and flexible co-working spaces occupy the containers, which are available in three sizes and can even be rented long-term. Take a look.
