Sculptural steel home built into a 19th-century railway bridge wants $1.4M
The steel protects the interior from noisy trains With its twisting curves and unfurling exterior, you?d be forgiven for mistaking this home for a piece of abstract art. Archway Studios in South London, designed by Undercurrent Architects, is built beneath a railway bridge and makes innovative use of a unique space, blending aging infrastructure with modern design.
Originally built as a family home and photography studio, this 1,600-square-foot residence occupies the infill plot sitting under a 19th-century viaduct with still-active trains running above it. The unorthodox design includes the industrial steel exterior which curls out from under the bridge, creating a billowing atrium with a sloping skylight that brightens the home.

This sweeping design carries over to the interior of the property, with a central living room under an arched ceiling and winding staircases that branch off to bedrooms and common spaces scattered across three stories. White walls help illuminate the space, and a study sits perched at the top of the home overlooking the living room.
