Sculptor John Risley
Sculptor John Risley quickly (1919-2002) caught my attention as I was fishing through some images. I was familiar with his whimsical wire sculpture chairs but he had some other fantastic works that are not as widely seeable. I am very drawn to some of his sculptures, here are a handful of my favorite.
“John Risley (1919-2002), a sculptor, artist and furniture designer born in Waterville, Maine. He attended Loomis Institute in Windsor, Connecticut, as well as Malvern College in England before graduating from Amherst College in 1942. He served in the U. S. Army Information and Education section from 1942-1946 and was stationed in Tokyo. He later trained as a sculptor, receiving his BFA in 1949 from the Rhode Island School of Design and his MFA in 1950 from the Cranbrook Academy.
