Restored 18th-century Irish estate can be yours for $9.2M



The Emsworth outside Dublin was designed by James Gandon and sits on nearly 17 acres In honor of St. Patrick?s day, let?s take a look at a grand private residence in Ireland designed by one of the leading architects of the 18th and 19th centuries. Designed by the Englishman James Gandon (the architect behind Dublin?s Custom House), Emsworth, as the estate is called, was built in 1792 and is located on 17 manicured acres in the affluent coastal town of Malahide on the northside of Dublin.
The neoclassical property, which recently underwent a complete restoration, comprises an elegant main house with three formal reception rooms, three ensuite bedrooms, and a cinema room; an adjoining wine cellar; a two-bedroom coach house that could be used for guests or staff; and a cottage with a fully equipped gym, to name just a few of its many impressive offerings.
The interiors, which measure 5,543 square feet, are marked by beautifully restored original molding, trim, and paneling, while updates like new parquet floors and vibrant paint jobs keeps the home feeling fresh.
Outside, the grounds are breathtaking. Leading up to the main residence is a long, tiered water fountain lined with topiaries, and in the back is a lovely swimming pool?one of the first ever built in Ireland!?with terrace and a pool house.
