The project site is perched on Benito?s point the highest hill in Queenscliff which is prominent from the main road that enters the coastal town.

Due to the conspicuous site, it was essential that the design was anchored in the local vernacular. Taking inspiration from the sandstone cliffs and bleached driftwood juxtaposed against the Fortified foundations of the Queenscliff Fort and the pitched roof weatherboard cottages.
These styles were reinterpreted as a simple composition of an extruded barn type timber house which stretches from North to South with two limestone fortified foundations which bookend the West façade.

The striking timber Barn was detailed with uninterrupted plains of spotted gum reminiscent of Scandinavian architecture and as a modern recreation of the traditional beach shack gabled roof aesthetic.

The resulting dwelling reflects the care taken in its creation, from its clean, confident design to the rich detailing and furnishing that animate its interiors. Externally and internally, the structure demonstrates refined and considered attention to materiality. Outside, cladding in ...
