Picture of the Day: Radhuset Station, Stockholm

Photograph by Arild VÃ¥gen
Seen here is the east entrance/exit to RÃ¥dhuset metro station in Kungsholmen in central Stockholm. The underground station is named after RÃ¥dhuset (The Court House) right above the surface, where you will also find City Hall and the Police Headquarters.
Like some other stations on the Stockholm metro, it uses organic architecture, which leaves the bedrock exposed and unsculptured, appearing to be based on natural cave systems. [source] The Stockholm Metro is often referred to as the ‘World’s Longest Art Gallery‘ with 90 of the 100 subway stations decorated with sculptures, mosaics, paintings, installations, engravings and reliefs by over 150 artists. Be sure to check out our feature article on the art of the Stockholm Metro here.
