It weighs about the same as a large cat The average folding chair leaves much to be desired, but when you need seating that doesn?t take up a lot of storage space, options are limited. Enter the Ollie Chair.
Designed by the mad (design) scientists at Rock Paper Robot, the chair features a clever frame that expands from a two-inch-thick slab into a wood and aluminum seat.
The genius of the design is in the chair?s slatted wood seat, called a tambour, which is flexible enough to lay flat or curve into the expanded chair. The slats are affixed to a hinged aluminum body that can fold in on itself like a collapsible crate. Pulling a cord at the back of the chair quickly pulls it from expanded to collapsed.
And the whole thing weighs just 16 pounds?about as much as a large cat. But unlike a cat, the chair also has a built-in carrying handle, making it fairly convenient to move around. The handle-holes on the back also make it easy to hang the chair on the wall.

Rock Paper Robot, based in Brooklyn, New York, will use the money from its Kickstarter campaign to fund the first production run of the chair, which is currently going for $300 a piece. With eight days left in the campaign, they?ve already more than doubled their goal. The company has previously introduced a futuristic aluminum table that also retracts to save space.
