The walls are made entirely out of laminated pine logs, which provide ample insulation Helsinki-based company Pluspuu has put a modern Finnish spin on the concept of log cabin kit homes. Their latest model?the Kustavi?is an airy timber villa with plenty of windows and ample insulation to withstand Finland?s freezing winters, where temperatures can dip as low as -22°F.
Built as a coastal vacation home, the 1,300-square-foot prototype is insulated by its laminated pine log walls, triple-glazed windows, and wood-fiber roofing material. A geothermal heating system circulates earth-warmed liquid under the floors in winter.

The design of the home is quite sleek, with a single-pitch shed roof and exterior clad in black timber. Large picture windows look out over the water and give onto an expansive rear deck. The interior is paneled with timber treated with white wax. Clinker cement floors add a modern touch.

The home?s rear entrance gives off into the open plan kitchen, living room, and dining area. Two bedrooms offer sleeping and storage areas. On the other side of the home is?of course?a sizable sauna overlooking the sea, as well as a heated outdoor jacuzzi on the terrace.
