When interior designer H. Albert Phibbs designed the Phibbs House in 1961, it was a shining example of midcentury modern design. Phibbs planned the 2,880-square-foot home in a Denver suburb with many of telltale signs of MCM: post-and-beam construction, large glass windows, built-in shelving, stone accents, and vaulted ceilings.
Today, the Phibbs House retains the charm of its original architecture, but its insides have been thoroughly updated with contemporary details like renovated flooring, granite and stainless steel countertops, and modern lighting fixtures.
The exterior has also been updated, but the bones remain the same, including the deep, slanted eaves that create a shaded overhang around the porch and garage.
Phibbs designed the three-bedroom, three-bathroom home to act as a frame for the surrounding nature. Though the floor-to-ceiling windows look out onto a tree lined residential street (there are mountains in the distance), the backyard has a dreamy cascading waterfall that streams from a pond to a pool.
