Although it had been abandoned for 40 years, the rustic cottage was restored by its new owner, who took care to recreate the rotting window frames and repair the walls with field stone, clay, and lime. The thatch roof was replaced with corrugated iron finished in red, and the mud floor stripped back and redone. A modern concrete extension designed by architect Maxime Laroussi that mimics the shape of the original home was also added.
The result is a charming, airy retreat that combines white-washed minimalist interiors with pastoral elements like rough-hewn ceiling trusses and textured walls. Large windows frame magical, rural views as far as the eye can see.
As for creature comforts, the rental includes a twin bedroom and master suite, a bathroom with a sunken bath and skylight overhead, a full kitchen, dining area, and living room with a wood-burning stove.
