Luxe 'House of Architects' spa hotel features rooms by Pritzker winners

Architects include Tadao Ando, Thom Mayne, and Peter Zumthor 7132 Hotel in Vals, Switzerland, known for its ancient thermal baths, features not only world-class luxury spa facilities, but also rooms designed by some of the biggest names in architecture.
House of Architects, a portion of the Therme Vals complex (now renamed to 7132) created by Swiss architect and Pritzker winner Peter Zumthor, offers guests the opportunity to stay in one of seven rooms designed by Tadao Ando, Kengo Kuma, Thom Mayne, and Zumthor himself.
Pritzker Prize winning architect Mayne, along with his studio Morphosis, contributed four rooms to the hotel, two paneled with indigenous wood, and another two clad entirely with Vals quartzite. Each suite features a striking stand-alone shower made of glass placed in the middle of the room. Morphosis also designed the House of Architects? curving lobby pavilion. Another Pritzker winner, Ando, created a room inspired by the ?subtle aesthetics? of Japanese teahouses, while his countryman Kuma designed a cocoon-like space that takes its cues from Japanese carpentry. Overlapping panels of Swiss oak clad the entire room.
Zumthor?s rooms take a different approach, employing stucco lustor, a plasterwork technique with origins in the Italian Renaissance, that establishes a dark, moody, and sophisticated ambience. Take a look below.
