Ikea smart lighting to be compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple Home app
It?ll be available in the U.S. between late summer and early fall
Ikea is diving into the home tech depths, with news out this week that the Swedish furniture powerhouse will unveil an inexpensive line of LED smart lighting, TRÃ…DFRI, which will be compatible with Amazon Echo and Google Home systems, along with Apple?s Home app.
It?s not the first time Ikea has embraced technology in its designs: The company has developed wireless charging furniture?which powers up mobile devices by contact with the surface of a specialized table or lamp base.
As is the vogue these days, Ikea smart lighting will be both app and voice controlled. Beyond the cool factor for Ikea, the impending smart lighting?s compatibility with Amazon Echo, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit is, in general, another step in the direction of smart homes for the masses. In a release, Ikea Home Smart business leader Björn Block said that the company hopes to ?challenge everything that is complicated and expensive with the connected home,? and ?[make] it easier to interact with [a user?s] smart home products.? Sounds good to us.
While Ikea has yet to announce an exact release date, a spokesperson for the company said in an email to Curbed that the company is ?on track for the summer/early fall.?
