Idea House: Modern Design Meets Nature in Lake Oswego
The Idea House designed by JHL Design in Lake Oswego, United States, is a family retreat with expansive windows and concrete floors, designed in 2008. Nestled in the trees of southwest Portland, the home blends modern design with natural surroundings, featuring concrete flooring and plywood walls for warmth and grounding.
About Idea House
Designed by JHL Design’s principals Holly Freres and David Horning, the Idea House sits in a southwest neighborhood of Portland.
Freres and Horning created the house for their family of six, building on the site of a derelict house they discovered. They demolished the original house but retained its foundation, preserving the footprint of the lower level.
The new design incorporates large windows to bring in natural light and frame forest views, grounding the space with concrete floors and adding warmth with plywood walls throughout the home.
