For French designer?s first U.S. show, embracing a Surrealist spirit

?OOPS? runs at R & Company in TriBeCa until October 19 Though it?s titled ?OOPS,? a new show of furniture and objects by French interior architect and designer Pierre Yovanovitch has a studied, Surrealist verve that seems far from accidental.
Mounted at R & Company, in Manhattan?s TriBeCa neighborhood, OOPS is part of a series of annual guest-curated shows at the design gallery and includes 24 new pieces by the French designer. It marks Yovanovitch?s first public show at a U.S. gallery, and takes inspiration from natural materials and the work of the craftspeople who helped produce the furniture, lighting, pillows, and more.
Among our favorite pieces were Yovanovitch?s Papa, Mama, and Baby Bear chairs, a trio with a Grimms-esque allure. Another standout is the zig-zagging Stanley sofa, upholstered in don?t-call-it-millennial pink and complemented by spherical and pyramidal pillows. Yovanovitch, a former menswear designer for Pierre Cardin, is perhaps best known on this side of the Atlantic for his interiors and his stellar Instagram account. But his profile is likely to rise after this show, which sees the first level of the R & Company space transformed under his hand. If you?re in New York, you can check OOPS out until Thursday, October 19.
