Flat-Pack Heirloom-Quality Furniture, Made in San Francisco
Our friend Regina Connell of Handful of Salt clued us in to Fyrn, a new line of high-end flat-pack furniture that launched late last year.
Founded by specialty woodworker Ros Broughton, whose family has been making furniture for more than a century, Fyrn’s first collection is Stemn, a line of six stools and chairs named for their svelte metal joints. Fyrn wares are available online, and the company plans to expand to offer furniture for every room in the house.
NB: Although the company does not have a showroom, if you’re in the SF Bay Area you can stop by to see the wares in person or pick up your furniture so you don’t have to pay to ship fully assembled furniture. To see the chairs in situ, visit SF restaurants Bellota (by Remodelista Architect/Designer Directory member Sagan Piechota) and the Tradesman, and Shakewell in Oakland.
Above: Broughton’s idea was to design furniture that would be shipped flat?to keep prices down?and painlessly assembled at home. But the company soon learned that not everyone wants to assemble their own furniture?so each piece has two prices: one for a flat-packed unit you assemble yourself and another for a fully assembled piece delivered to you at home.
