Feltmark: Minimal, Handmade Lighting from an LA Design Studio

Currently admiring: lighting from David Okum of Los Angeles design studio Feltmark, who makes handmade, stripped-down pieces from aircraft aluminum and wood. His Wald Plug Light plugs directly into a wall outlet without the need for a cord, and he’s currently developing a solar-powered nightlight sconce. Here’s a look at his work:
Above: According to Okum, “Wald is a floor lamp stripped to its most essential parts, then reassembled as a floor lamp to fit any environment.” The Wald Hi-Lo in neutral is $159 (a Wald Hi-Lo version in dark plum is $159).
Above: The hardwood body is machine milled and hand finished.
Above: The components are made entirely of lightweight aircraft aluminum (the total weight is 6.87 ounces).

Above: The Ellum Solar is “an intuitive smart light, embedded with sensors that cause the light to turn on when motion is detected. A single day of charging equals six months of use.”
Above: The Ellum Solar is available for pre-order (a mid-October shipping date is anticipated) for $64.
