Exploring ?Portland?s Living Room?
Occupying an entire city block, Pioneer Square, centrally located in downtown Portland, Oregon, provides a nice place for locals and visitors alike to enjoy the city. In fact, it?s sometimes called ?Portland?s Living Room?.
The square gets its name from the 1879 Pioneer Court House, which is situated along its southern side. The Court House is a beautiful landmark, with its prominent copper roofed central cupola.
At the Northwest corner of Pioneer Square, sits what may very well be the world?s nicest Starbucks coffee shop, it was the popular chains 40th location and opened in 1989. The building?s exterior, including significant column supported trellis, is clad in a thick bronze sheet. Although predominately showing initial rich brown tones even these vertical surfaces are beginning to develop a dusting of the green patina weathering tones. Next time you?re in Portland, if you get the chance, spend some time exploring and relaxing in Portland?s Living Room ? you won?t regret it!
