Endangered Brutalist icon in Sydney may live to see another day

Hundreds marched over the weekend in protest against the government?s inaction The 1970s era Brutalist Sirius building in Sydney, Australia that was in danger of being demolished because it failed to gain heritage protection from the government might just live to see another day. According to Dezeen, Unions NSW (New South Wales) and the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union have prohibited construction workers from working on the site, which means that they will not be able to demolish it.
Over the weekend, hundreds of people, joined by Sydney mayor Clover Moore and other prominent figures, took to the street to protest the building?s sale to a developer and the state government?s failure to protect it. A petition and crowdfunding campaign have also been set up to raise money in order to take legal action against the government?s decision not to list Sirius on the heritage register earlier this summer. Although the government may not change its decision immediately, the "green ban" by the unions poses a challenge to developers, who will have a difficult time going forward with their plan to demolish the Tao Gofers-designed concrete apartments then build new luxury high-rises. Dezeen has the full scoop.

What's not to like - a beautiful building that enriches Sydney in so many ways. Please help @saveoursirius in getting the NSW government to do the right thing and protect her and return her to the people. #saveoursirius #nswpol #sydneylocal #pu...
