Measuring 90 square meters, or approximately 968 square feet, the open-plan one bedroom makes great use of space, employing a mix of hues, patterns, materials, and decor objects that instead of cluttering the space, work to demarcate different zones.
A freelance designer, director, and entertainment consultant, the owner, Chad, and his father renovated the basement on a shoestring budget, which meant that the two of them had a lot of DIY-ing to do. And because the subterranean flat was built into the side of a mountain, they had to "excavate" in order to raise the height of the ceiling. Letting in as much natural light as possible was also a challenge, but they managed to use windows and wall cut-outs to maximize illumination.
