Concrete house hides glass walls and nature views
Closed and open at the same time From a certain vantage point, this house in The Netherlands appears to be a solid slab of concrete. Upon first glance, a set of concrete stairs climb a concrete wall on the way to the front door. Turn the corner, though, and the facade unfurls into an expanse of glassy windows.

Bedaux de Brouwer Architects designed House Zeist to stand in contrast to its location in the woods of Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park. The architects worked with the client to design a house of duality?depending on your point of view, the concrete and glass home can feel like a fortress against the outside or an invitation to connect with nature.

Outside there?s a covered concrete porch that overlooks the forest. Inside, the connection between the manmade and natural continues with concrete walls and floors that provide a clean backdrop for warm wooden touches.
