City made of Books in Shangai
The China-based architectural studio “X+Living” has made an impressive bookstore that looks like a small urban city of books. The floor is made of white stripes and looks like a long pedestrian crossing and the installations on the walls make you feel like you are walking through the Shanghai streets.
The bookstore is located in the shopping center Reel in Shanghai. Although it looks like an urban street, it is a quiet intimate space where you can lose yourself for hours absorbed between the books. The space is harmonious and with minimalist interior. It is divided into lighter section with street lights thanks to the flashing ads and white exhibition stands, and a huge darker and more personal corridor covered with books from the ceiling to the floor, which leads to a coffee bar in industrial style. The spaces are imitating an urban exploration where one turn around the corner can take you into a quarter with a very different spirit and into a new, unexpected and pleasant surprise. The space has a magnetic appeal and you?ll have no choice, but to dive into this new place for enjoying a good book.
